The new playground at Saumarez Park will move a step closer with help from Storm Force Fitness.
Storm Force Fitness, based at the indoor cricket centre, Guernsey, has chosen the Friends of Saumrez Park Playground as the next charity to benefit from the charity camps they hold every Saturday morning between 10:00 & 11:00am. Trainers will work without pay for the the hour and the Guernsey Cricket Board, which runs the centre, will waive the hourly rent so that fees can go directly to the charity.
'We wanted to get into the charity side of things but not supporting the same one' said Storm Force Fitness's Jon Le Tocq.
Friends chairman Zef Eisenberg said he was very appreciative of the support. 'Jon realised the importance, not only of the playground and our goals in achieving the new facility but that fitness goes hand in hand with them' he said.
'Money is coming in on a regular basis and we now have fund raising events constantly planned' said Mr Eisenberg. 'One of them will be a pirates ball in February as the whole focus of the new playground will be a pirate ship in the middle.
The next Event is a bingo night at Les Cotils on Tuesday 13th November. Tickets are available from Sarah on 07781 128341.

Fundraising takes to the skies ...
Friends of Saumarez Park Playground Committee Member - Sarah Winsall, will take to the skies this weekend to help raisie funds for the new children's playground. Here's what Sarah said:
"When asked in the school carpark some 4 months ago if I fancied doing a tandem skydive over L'Eree from 10,000ft, my first response was 'No, not really'! An hour or two later I had changed my mind, filled in the form with the aim of raising money for Saumarez Park Playground and the children's wards at Southampton Hospital. I then sent in the forms, filled in the medical questionnaire (required for being just slightly the wrong side of 40) and proceeded to forget about it.
Now, with less than 4 days to go, I am starting to think quite a lot about my impending rapid descent. I've been met with responses varying from 'You are nuts' to 'Wow, you'll love it'. All I know is that I shall be jumping for two fantastic causes and hoping that I can raise as much money as possible. What makes things all the more scary is the fact that the jump will be filmed for TV! More on that later!
So, if you are free on Saturday (weather permitting), exact time TBA, why not join us at L'Eree. Not only will you be supporting me but the other fools leaping from a perfectly intact and fully operational aircraft.
If you aren't able to sponsor me directly (sarah@guernseymums.gg), then why not make a donation to the Playground - all our kids are worth it.
Wish me luck!
Sarah x"

The first of many...
New Saumarez playground could be the first of many...
Saturday 23rd June 2012, 4:00PM BST.
Dead Man's Cove, the junior area of the new playground.
SAUMAREZ PARK’S revamped playground might be the first of several new play areas if fundraising goes well, The Friends of Saumarez Park Playground chairman Zef Eisenberg has said.
The fundraising group was set up to help redevelop the tired facilities at the Castel park, which are nearly 20 years old. Mr Eisenberg said it was important to update the play area. Plans have been drawn up which would see a wooden ship form the centre of the playground.
‘As a regular user of the park with my own kids, I was impressed with the plans and was keen to be part of the fundraising efforts in creating what will be the pride of Guernsey in terms of recreational facilities,’ Mr Eisenberg said.
Anyone interested in supporting the fundraising effort or finding out more about the playground and sponsorship opportunities can contact Friends of Saumarez Park Playground secretary Hazel Seymour on 07839 151073.

Saumarez park seeks £500k ‘make over’
Date: 11th June 2012
After 20 years, Saumarez Park , the most popular in Guernsey , is set for a radical and exciting make over, if plans to raise £500,000 are achieved. To help reach this goal, a new charity has been launched to raise funds for the most exciting adventure playground Guernsey has ever seen, with the latest equipment the industry has to offer. The central attraction of the park is to be a giant wooden ship with slides, ropes and various levels in symbolic representation to Admiral Lord de Saumarez’s achievements.
Playground experts were recruited to provide assistance on the most popular and latest apparatus enjoyed by kids. Feedback from frequent users of the park has ensured that the Zip wire will stay, whilst the mud filled pond could be dredged out and made into a model boating lake and if enough money is raised, the latest in outdoor adult exercise apparatus shall be installed, to encourage families to play and exercise together.
The original plans for the new playground were unveiled at the launch of the appeal in January and, so far, approximately £50,000 has been donated/pledged, towards the new playground plans.
The new charity ‘The Friends of Saumarez Park Playground’ (FOSP) have exciting plans to promote what is an important recreational facility for Guernsey’s children and future generations by setting up a legacy fund. This will ensure future generations have ample funds available to ensure the park maintains its importance as the key park in Guernsey .
‘As a regular user of the park with my own kids, I was impressed with the plans and was keen to be part of the fund raising efforts in creating what will be the pride of Guernsey in terms of recreational facilities. We have the full backing of Environment to deliver the plans as visualised, with a commitment that they will maintain and look after the park once built. We are keen to engage with businesses and groups of all sizes and those individuals across the community who feel this is a most worth while cause and want to help us achieve our goals.’ Zef Eisenberg, FOSP Chairman
“The new plans for the playground are inspiring and we all want to see the new equipment installed as soon as possible. Saumarez Park is one of Guernsey ’s best loved meeting places and the playground is very important to families. Guernseymums, FOSP - committee member
FOSP are looking to engage with local schools, to allow kids to be involved in the creation of this exciting new facility. Likewise generous donors will have the opportunity to be recognised for generations to come with various creative marketing opportunities.
Subject to attracting sufficient funds, it is anticipated that the new playground build will commence end of 2013. The target amount to be raised is £500,000.
